West Florida Enjoys Big Win Over Milton At Wahoos Stadium
The West Florida Jaguars certainly enjoyed playing at Wahoos Stadium. The Jaguars erupted out of the gate for a monster first inning, and never looked back in earning an 11-1 victory over the Milton Panthers on Tuesday, April 9th, in the final high school baseball action of this year played at the majestic stadium.
West Florida erupted for ten runs in that monster first frame to earn their 12th win of the 2024 campaign. That momentum carried on throughout the week, as the Jaguars then downed Escambia and Booker T. Washington to stretch their winning streak to five games and improve to 14-4 overall.
The Jaguars sent 15 batters to the plate to do all the damage they needed right away. Jayden Thomas got the scoring going the tough way by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and then Grayson Phillips delivered the big hit by lining a triple down the left field line to clear the bases for three RBI. After the Jags again loaded the bags, Connor Powers came through with an RBI single. Ashton Bailey followed with a two-RBI double, and two more runs scored on an error. Jayden Thomas then came back around to complete the monster inning with an RBI single to right.
The Panthers (9-8) avoided the shutout by answering back for their only run in the top of the third. Sayler Melton led off with a walk, and he advanced into scoring position after Jack Arnold reached on an error. A walk to Harley Messer loaded up the bases, and a wild pitch allowed Melton to race home and put Milton on the scoreboard.
A sac-fly RBI in the fifth provided the final cushion needed to close out the contest via the mercy rule, as Hayden Huntsinger drove in Adam Geiger on a fly ball to center.
Several Jaguars collected multiple hits on the day. Grayson Phillips was 2-for-3, Jaxson Cramer went 2-for-3 with two runs and Ashton Bailey was 2-for-3 with a double, 2 RBI and two runs.
