The Florida State University High Seminoles have another trophy to add to the display case. Following a 10-0 shutout victory over the Maclay Marauders in Thursday’s District 2A-2 championship, the Seminoles won their first district title since the 2022 season. It is FSU’s 25th overall district championship in program history.
The Seminoles (15-11) earned a berth into the regional playoffs, and they will travel to take on the Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors in a Region 2A-1 quarterfinal on Saturday, April 25th. Trinity Christian (20-7) won the District 2A-3 crown with an 11-10 decision over the Bishop Snyder Cardinals.
FSU has also not qualified for the regional playoffs since 2022, but the Seminoles will carry plenty of momentum after their decisive victory in the district final. Since these are the only two teams in the district, the championship slate was always pre-determined as a winner-takes-all battle for a playoff spot. But the Seminoles controlled both sides to pull away with the win and remove much of the drama in this contest.

Senior Sam Clark took care of business on the mound to blank the Marauders (15-8) and earn the victory. Clark scattered four hits and four walks over five full innings of work, while also hitting two batters. Thanks primarily to his 10 strikeouts, Clark kept any base runners from scoring.
Kade McLeod recorded a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless sixth to close out the contest.
Nearly every offensive starter in the batting order reached base to contribute to the big win. Sophomore catcher Jerrett Vaughan got it going with a lead-off double in the second, and then came in to score the winning run on an RBI single from Cohen Tigerina. Vaughan was 2-for-3 with two RBI on the day, while Brayden Smith was 1-for-1 with a double, two walks, two RBI and three runs. Bryce Ravenel was 1-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs, while Knox Powell went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and two runs.
Tucker Poppell was 2-for-3 with a double to account for half of Maclay’s four total hits.
